Information for Participants

We welcome you to the XVIII INQUA Congress 2011 and hope you have an exciting conference, interesting field trips and a wonderful stay in Bern. We received about 2100 registrations, and more than 1000 talks and 1500 posters will be presented. Please find below some organisational details:

Daily Programme A daily programme with features, sightseeing tips and a detailed session programme has been created for each day of the congress. It is available from lunchtime on the preceding day in all congress venues.
Name Badge Your name badge is required for admission to all congress activities. You will have to show your personal badge at all entrances to the congress venues and the catering hall, so please wear it at all times.
Speakers Speakers are kindly asked to upload their presentations directly in the respective lecture room within 30 minutes preceding the start of their session block (for guidelines, please see congress website).
Posters Posters should be put up in the morning on the day allocated to its presentation and should hang the whole day. Presenters are expected to be in attendance during the poster session. All posters must be removed by the owners by 18.00, otherwise they will be discarded by the organisers.
Catering Coffee breaks, lunches and the welcome reception are included in your registration.
Morning coffee breaks are served in all 4 venues: BERNEXPO 2 Poster Hall and close to the session rooms in the Stade de Suisse, Kaserne and Hotel Novotel.
Afternoon coffee is served only at BERNEXPO 2 Poster Hall during the poster sessions. All lunches take place at BERNEXPO 2 Poster Hall.
Bar & Cafe To have a coffee or a snack between the meals provided, visit the “Intermezzo Bar & Café” in the entrance hall at BERNEXPO 2. Please note, that you will have to pay for your orders there.
Reception All participants are warmly invited to the Welcome Reception with live music on Thursday, 21 July 2011 from 18.00 to 20.00 at the National Horse Centre (see map or follow signs).
Congress Dinner To join the Congress Dinner on Lake Thun on Monday, 25 July, you need to have registered in advance. A special ticket for registered participants is included with the congress material and must be presented on the train to Thun. The dinner will be served on the 2.5-hour boat trip following.
Two special trains depart from Bern main station to Thun at 19.10 and 19.20 (scheduled from platform 5/6). Please be there on time! Trains return to Bern main station at either 23.10 or 23.20.
Insurance Please note, that all insurance is the sole responsibility of the participant.

Internet Lounge 10 working stations with Internet access are available at the congress centre BERNEXPO 1.3. Please limit the usage to 15 minutes if others are waiting.
Public Transport All registrants, except for holders of day passes, receive a weekly ticket for free public transport within the city and the surrounding region.
IMPORTANT: Please validate your ticket before your first ride by stamping it at any of the ticket machines at the bus or tram stops, or at Bern main station.
Unfortunately, due to maintenance work this summer, several trams will not be operating as usual and will be replaced by buses. This is the case for the no. 9 line from the city centre to the congress venue BERNEXPO. As an alternative, you can also take bus no. 20 to the “Wyler” stop (near the congress venue Stade de Suisse). We are sorry for this inconvenience!
