Itinerary: Bern - Sion - Hérens - Sion - Bern Today’s landscape in the valley of Hérens (Valais) is mostly the result of the erosion of the twin glaciers of Ferpècle and Mont Miné. Combined geomorphological and chronological data suggest a 20 to 30 % decrease of the initial glacier mass since the end of the Little Ice Age. It further receded dramatically during the second half of the twenty century becoming two separated glaciers since 1960. A relatively easy walk through a breathtaking natural scenery allows to visualize the traces of the glacier as well as to combine its evolution with archeological and historical data. Note Level of difficulty: easy to intermediate (ca. 1900 m altitude). A good pair of hicking shoes as well as rain gear are necessary. Picnic onsite. Remarks: Highly dependent on weather conditions although it should be OK at this time of the year. Price includes the tour and a pic-nic lunch |
