| Description | Itinerary: Bern - Lake Brienz Area - Bern The magnitude of the economic losses (211 million CHF) of the 2005 flood event on August 23rd in the Lütschine catchment, Swiss Alps, shows that flood hazards assessment need to be improved by longer time series. The aim of this fieldtrip is to discuss the potentials of a multidisciplinary approach, integrating methods of various disciplines as sedimentology, geochronology, pedology, geomorphology, palynology, history and archaeology, for flood hazard assessment of alpine rivers in the Berner Oberland. The fieldtrip encompass several key sites of fluvial landforms as fan deltas, alluvial fans and valley bottoms in the Lake Brienz area, where the geomorphological and sedimentological evolution of the deposits will be discussed. Furthermore, we will debate the influence of climate variability on the historical occupation of the flood areas. Price includes the tour and a pic-nic lunch |
