Description

The excursion programme is designed to learn about traces of the last glaciation from the Alpine Foreland and up into the high mountains, tracing the paleoglaciers back into their (paleo)catchments. Sites of historic interests in the discovery of the ice age will be visited (Neuchâtel, Lourtier / Val de Bagnes) as well as areas of active ongoing research. The excursion covers a transect in the western part of the country and to the south into the high valleys of the Valais.

On days 2, 3 and 4 short, but somewhat demanding hikes will be done. Serious hiking equipment (boots) is required. Please, contact your medical doctor for your high altitude fitness (up to 2800 m).
